About CBD

CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of over eighty chemical compounds known as cannabinoids that are found in the Cannabis Sativa plant. Unlike the more popular cannabinoid THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD has no psychoactive properties or effects.
Cannabinoids are agonists that bind to cell receptors known as cannabinoid receptors, which make up the endocannabinoid system (ECS) within the human body. The ECS is a complex signaling network within the body that is responsible for neuroprotection, homeostatic regulation, immune balance, and much more. There are many different types of cannabinoids, such as endocannabinoids, which are endogenous to mammals. Another form of cannabinoids are classified as phytocannabinoids, which are found in plants. Cannabinoid receptors are predominantly found in the brain and central nervous system (CB1 receptors) but can also be found in the immune system and organs (CB2 receptors) throughout the body.
Because of the chemical structure of the human body, CBD is an ideal compound that provides relief for a wide variety of ailments. It targets the entire system instead of focusing solely on a symptom, working to achieve balance within the organism as a whole. While CBD does not bind directly to the CB1 or CB2 receptors, it indirectly affects the ECS and its processes by stimulating endogenous cannabinoid signaling and suppressing the enzyme fatty acid, amide hydroxylase (FAAH). FAAH is involved in the metabolic breakdown of anandamide, one the body's endo-cannabinoids that favors the CB1 receptors. With the suppression of FAAH, anandamide is able to stay present in the system longer, allowing for extended CB1 activation. CBD also works to stimulate the release of 2AG, which is another endo-cannabinoid that activates both the CB1 and CB2 receptors. CBD also activates the GPR55 receptors, which has been shown to treat pain and inflammation. It has also been proven to be a partial agonist of the 5-HT1A receptor, which contributes to its antidepressant, anti-anxiety, and neuroprotective effects.
CBD shows promising potential for the following:
Anti-inflammatory
Analgesic
Antidepressant
Antioxidant
Anti-tumoral agent
Neuroprotectant
Anxiety Relief
